KEEP IT DARK.
Wednesday, May 2. The remarkable success thai; has attended the steady development of tbis mine during tbe J«s£ few months gives another (oc\b)e instance as the result of a cSnslaut and steady course of operatioDS bein;{ carried oa in the face of many difficulties. And although the work of four years Las not yet produced an actual return for capital invested, it is nevertheless admitted by all persons engaged in fine- mine aud by any casual visitor, that the immense face of goldbearing stone exposed to view and proved to exist, Ibat tbe time i* now fast approaching when lbs claim must take a very prominent p?ice in this field. A steady course of wovks haviug been pursued for over fouryeavs, aod daring which lime various blocks of gold bearing partz were met with, bat until the lode vow being operated upon was intersected it could tot h& stated that a body of stone of a really payable character had been proved to ex'st within the company's ground. Three-separate crushing*having now been* lakeafrom this more receofly discovered reef, the total quantity being over a thousand tons, and the lowest yield giving ao average of from two or three grains under half an ounce to-the lon is in its»lf sufficient test of tbe payable quality of tbe sfooe, and from the fcboadance of quarts exposed in the rarious works this morning I do not hesi» bate in sayiDg that in tbe event of the lode maintaining its present quality, a Fact of which there now appears to- be no Joubt, the above property it a gplesdid >ne. As it has already been mentioned bat there are two branches of stone, the Irst driven on is known a» the eastern jranch which is now being stoped out, tnd from which the greater part of the inppry for the battery is being obtained tt the present time. Toe length of the >lock on this branch, including stone over he main level, is about 100 feet, and in ilaces about 18ft thick. When tbe reef is tends to this thickness the ground is afcber moist and loose, thus heavy tim* >ering is necessary, the roof requiring aths as close as a main lorel. Thia it
rhtber an expensive work, but from the nature of a portion of the ground is perfectly indispensable, and the works are, notwithstanding the largeness of the reef and soft character of the ground, ren* dered splendidly secure. On the western ! branch, or rather the main reef, tbe level has been carried for 86ft along the reef, with 10ft of stone in the face at the present time, aad stone making thicker into the hanging wall. Tbe face is as solid as j bell metal, the walls are exesllently defined, and the lode in appearance is as fine a face of stone bitberto opened in this part 6¥ the district. As soon as this body is fairly opened up there should be no difficulty in keeping tbe whole 20 stamps constantly occupied for a very considerable period, and the entire aspect of the mine is without doubt so favorable comparatively to tho past that shareholders may now consider their mine thoroughly proved and established as a properly of no small value.
