The Hon Mr Pox lecturing here on Monday night, said that the permissive principle of his Licensing Bill has bees retained in the New Zealand Statute Book, and expressed bis opinion, that Parliament would next session pass an effective Permissive Bill. Ro^aba, May 1. A fatal mining accident occurred at Powers'' claim on Larrikin's Terrace to»day. * Two men were smothered by a fall of earth. One man has been dug out dead. The other has not yet been found. There is no hope of his being alive. In a,noth,er claim on the same lead a man named Alexander M'Leod had his leg broken by the fall of a stone of a ■ ton weight.
