MINE RS' RIGHT FEES.

[TO THB EDITOB IKAHOAHUA HMBB.] Sis,— l notice that jour contemporary ha 9 once more trotted out his jaded! hobby horse upon the undesirability of relieving the miners of the present undue* taxation upon miners* rights. We have* already heard his " views " upon the im— propliety of removing the export duty on gold, and now he comesforwsrd to oppose a reductioa of the fees for miners' rights. However, it matters, my little- what his. opinions are upon the subject, for he is,, fortunately for the mining community, not likely to influence the decision of theConference one way or the other. But it strikes me as a little anomalous that he,, who is dependent in a very great degree* for support upon the miners, should be so . anxious to make tighter the burden which* they have to pay the state. In Victoria, the miners' right fee is ss, and abundant, argument has been shown why no higher fee should- be charged in this, country. Gold digging is not the thing it used to bein years gone by, when men could pay Lit and not feel it. But there is no need to. argue the injustice of the present charge, for it is admitted by all but those who are> blindly prejudiced against the miners. Apologising for trespassing upon yourspace,—l am, &c, A MIREB. Boatman's, April 22nd, IST?.
