Tbe ex-Empress Eugenic gained her ease easily against the Paris newspaper Lea Droits de 1' Homme, which had stated that she was born three years after tbe death of her reputed father. She and her •on have been residing at Florence for some time, and a French gentleman wbo had visited them tbere states that the ex Empress is beginning to grow stout and that her hair is rapidly turning grey.
Both Russia and Turkey are eagerly buying up American revolvers and rifles. By the Colt machinery, bought by General Corloff, already 3,000,000 rifles have been turned out ; Russia lias imported 100,000 Smith and Weston revolvers, and 20,000,000 cartridges, to say nothing of the 400,000 cartridges manufactured daily in Russia from American machines. Meanwhile Turkey has contracted in \ Khode island for 800,000 Martini Henry rifles, of whic 1 ! 250,000 have already been shipped, and 100,000 more are ready for export.
