A MOVEMENT baa bepn stnrted at Ibe i LveH.'or sppn ration of that portion of the district fromthr County of BuHer. A petition upon the pubj«c» is n<>w in ci«.ubition. and, we barn, is being readily sighed by the. inhabitants there. The proposal <t tn form n separate County uniting Hampden and the 1 yell, the annual revenue of the |wo districts being set down at. £6000. The Lyell Argua is strongly in favor of tbe t»ebe*Tte, and though its remarks on tbe pu*'ject nrp ju*t n I ttle bit goody goody they will perhaps bear repetition. Our " LyellipuMati " contemporary 9ft y ß }_« It* Hampden and Lyell were formed into one County itis eHtimated that the Council wou^d have a revenun of at least n\x thousand pounds. -This PUin alnnp, spent as it would be judiciously in the County, increasing year by year, would in itself form no meati element of prosperity ; with this prospect before us it seems alnnos' criminal on our nart to remain passive. Every man in the district has a stake in it, and what manner of men are we, to sit tamely down Whilst sharper and 'Keener men are filching the Tery bread from the mouths of our children. Wb- aay there is not a child in the district that has not a right to turn to ir itn parent, and iti language that tthould burn into hU very soul this address him : Father, day by day and year, am \ increasing in growth and .-tature ; what preparation are ; you miking for my future ? Where am I to be educated? Who _is tp instruct me in the creed to which 1 belong? and who is to give me relief when I am gick ? Tou, sir, by your supineness and miserable inert.ioa have neglected the opportunity given to you to acquire these benefits for me ; and when you are old and f? ehle by your cruel neglect will you then bave deprived me of the meana of relieving and administering; to your wants ; and more, even as a child I bring revenue to the state, and I demand my share of the benefits accruing therefr m. You. sir have allowed Westport and Keefton to de prive me of my fair portion, and by neglecting you duty as a citizen, in not striving to forward th« interests of your district, you have deprived me of the means of becoming wbat all men should strive to become, viz.: honest, upright, God fearing men — men not ashamed of the homes of tbeir youth, nor afraid or unable to take their p ace in the councils of tbeir native land."
