THE Inangahna Times. PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 1877.

The time ba# 'once more come round for tbe annual admonition to the inbabttanta to register their vote?. It is, or ought to be by this time sufficiently understood that the Electoral Law of this Colony sets apart; three months in each year during .which ne* claims to vote may b^ J sent in to the proper officer. This period expires on the 31st instant. Since the passing, in 1875, of tbe " Registration of Electors Act/ the necessity for this admonition hafe been r considerably lessened, as by that Act tbe duty was east upon the Secretaries of Road ami Highway Boards of compiling and forwarding to tbe nearest Registration Officer lists to tbe 31st March hi each year of all persons who had been assessed and who bad paid their rates during the year. These lists being treated by tbe Registration Officer as " new claims to Tote," removed in the majority of instances tbe necessity for individual application, but as there are many persons without the pale of Road Board jurisdiction, and whose names therefore would not be returned as ratepayers, it may be still worth while to give the usual caution, Tbe basis of qualification to vote for the House of Representatives is as follows : — Ownership for 11 term not less than six months of a freehold of the value of £50 ; the holding of a lease having not less than three years to run, or whfch has been beld for that period, of the value of not less than £10 ; and to an householder paying an annual rental of not less than £10, or if resident in the country after six months occupancy, then of the value of £5 per year. The " Lodgers Fran* cbi»eAefc" also entitles persons who have been the sole occupants of rooms as tenants for a term of twelve months to tbe 31 at of December last to claim to vote. It may be as well to mention that removal from one part of the district to another, or in fact from one house to another, however near or remote, necessitates re-registration. The required forms of registtation may be either written or printed.
