THB Provincial Council of Otago being Hffiirous of stimulating int entiou, and ' securing the use of gold saving I pparatus in ' connection with hydraulic mining adapted to 1 ihe purpose of extracting gold from auriferous earth more completely than any of the ' machines or methods at present iv use, has 1 voted the sum of £250, to bo offered as a bonus for the invention of such uo apparatus, subject to such competition and regulations ac bia Honor the Hupermtendeait umy seem ' fit. ■ Notice it hereby given it. accordance with the vote of the Council, that plans and proposal-) lor such an apparatus will be leceived for consideration, up til) tbe first day of August next ensuing. The following particulars are published for ' the information of intended exaibitore of plans. The plans and proposals will be submitted to a body of judges, composed of i experienced miners, and suuh other persons > as his Honor the Superintendent may appoint, ' and iv considering them the following points • will be kept in view :— > 1. The cost of the upparntus as it appears ' on the plan, and its probable cost and tear and r wear. t 2. The readiness with which it can he i secured in any part of a tail race, and be ' removed troiu one part to another and again J secured. " 3. Its adaptability to the different widths r nnd fulls of tail races used iv different districts ; to the varying quantities of water used either by choice or necessity for flushing the 1 same ; and to the different kinds of wanhdirt trout which gold is obtained iv tho Province. Inventors are expected to be conversant with the macbiues aud uetbods at present in 1 use, and not to otter simple reproductions of the same. They are also expected not to offer reproductions of machines or methods which have fallen into disuse. If, iv the opinion of the judges appointed any plan shall appear to be- worthy of adoption by tbe miners in the Province, the Government undertakes to furnish copies of the same to each of the Mining Associations in (he Province with full instructions as to inventions of the iuveutora, and the payment of the bonus trill then be determined in tbe following manner, payment being due wituin eight, month! from the data at which tbe ' copies of the plans aud instructions have been 1 issued to tbe various Mining Associations.
