Elsewhere we publish the result of the polling for the Antonios election, from which it will be seen that Mr Mathew Byrne bad been returned by a large majority. The supporters of each candidate, worked most energetically, and as showing the interest imported into, the contest by the- supporters of each candidate, it may be mentioned that every available saddle horse in Reefton had been, engaged to I convey voters for each candidate to the place of polling, and owing alone ito this circumstance seyen of Mr Byrne's supporters were prevented from recording their votes. It was fully expected by his frienda that Mr Duncan would have secured a much larger majority at Antonios, the number, after all being quite insignificant, especially when it i» remembered that a considerable number of Reefton votes were recorded at Antonios for the "local candidate." Mr Byrne's political supporters are now in. higher v dudgeon " than ever over the victory, but, it is to be hoped, they will not withhold a meed of sympathy to the other side in their mortifying defeat.
