Oar readers remember, doubtless, the fire which at Blenheim recently destroyed the Government Baildings and several houses. The New Zealand Times leant that the various land transfer records* marriage records, and other document! ©f a similar nature, which were looked up in brick safes at the time of the fire wet* found perfectly uninjured £ its ooneht sion. So much so, indeed, was this the> case, that in one of the safes a eandlewhich had been left theft was fouocl without the smallest appearance of having been subjected to excessive heat. For this assault Mra McGregor sued the inspector, and obtained A damages, with £3 9s costs. It is but fair to add that the inspector thought he wta being made the subject of a practical jo^e when he was in the cemetery.
