REEFTON SPORTS.

[to the editor INANOAHTTA TIMES ] Sia,— Although I should be sorry to say one word to the disparagement of the movement which has resulted witb sc much benefit to our lord hospital, I do hope tliat on the next holiday occasion, if sports are to be held nt all.differen^events will be made of sufficient money value to create interest. I think we bave now seen pretty conclusively tbat without i musio on the ground our sports will be , balf a faiter*. There is no gainsaying the " fact that' ahotber sucb " outing" as that of Boxing Day ' wcuid set people's minds • agninst ever vi3iMng Smith's paddock again. This is not said in any way against the projectors aad managers of tbe last spor.9, who deserve tbe thanks of tbe community for all tbat they did, but simply as a word of admonition regarding the future. For my own part. 1 I tbink that tbe " sports idea " as developed and carried out here during the last few years ig pvetty played out, , and tbat the next public money should go in getting up a day's horseracing on Fern Flat, I think the time has now come in tbe growth of tbis district wben we should ' go in for the " legitimate business." Will anybody second tbis P J am, yours &c, Resident. Reefton, January 3. 1877.
