DEPLORABLE STATE OF SPECIALS.
PERSISTENT TYPHOID RUMOURS.
Things are in a wretched state in the “ specials 1 ” camp in the Auckland Domain. “The tucker is rotten, the drainage is rotten; the specials are cramped, and the lurking fear of typhoid haunts the farmers. It is freely stated that the “ authorities ” have made a mess of the whole affair, and are in dread lest the truth about \the typhoid leaks out. A very considerable section of the farmers who were inveigled into taking the oath are growing restless, and want to get hack. The authorities are holding a threat over their heads to maintain discipline. The fact that a complete removal of the camp is contemplated is proof conclusive that the typhoid rumours are well founded.
