You, The Workers!
In the whole scheme of things nothing matters but you, the workers. You are the mainspring of human existence.
Without you, what would be the pomp of kings, and the pride of emperors? Without you, where would be the banquet, the palaces, the parks? Without you, where would be the, crown, the orb, the sceptre? Without you, wTiat of the gown, and the garter? Why, you make it possible for a king to
be born! Without the toiler, what of the mighty ships of war? Without you, tlieir horrible thundess wxmld be as the night calm of the valIpys; their battle-smoke, as the melted mists of the noontide hills. You make wealth, but don’t get it. You make poverty and get the lot, for you forge your own chains, and out of ignorance you wear them and call them blessed. It is you, the workers, who will reach out and plant a sure heaven here —but not through ignorance.— H.
