Big Protest against Conscription.

A big' anti-militarist demonstration was held, under the auspices of the N.Z. Freedom League, on Sunday afternoon, July 20tli, at the foot of Queen Street, Auckland. The large audience, mostly workers, was very enthusiastic and loudly applauded the six speakers, who condemned the “ Defence” scheme in unmistakable terms. A resolution, protesting against the gaoling, victimisation, and general persecution of boys, was carried with one dissentient (one “ Billy” Richardson, a local cold-water crank).

Two I.W.W. men spoke and explained the import of militarism from a Working Class viewpoint, recommending sabotage as the immediate weapon to disrupt conscription, and the General Strike for a final break-up.
