The Non-Political I. W. W.

We have little time for detailing the obvious ignorance of the Press on Labour matters. Their recent absurdities must be apparent to anyone with only a street corner acquaintance with the I.W.W. The new labour movement is described by the Auckland Massey sheet as “ an alliance between the anarchistic I.W.W. and the socialistic Unity Congress.” Apart from the fact that no I.W.W. delegates were present at the Unity Conference, a clause in our constitution reads:—

——the I.W.W. refuses all alliances. direct or indirect, with existing political parties or anti-political sects.”

The Socialists are a political sect; the Anarchists are anti-politi-cal. We refuse alliance with either, and remain non-political.

The Pressmen in question evidently do not know even a Socialist when they meet one. Reporting a recent meeting of Unity Labour leaders they wrote:—“The Socialists present then took a hand in the questioning, the bulk of their queries being directed against any form of political action. ’ ’

A pure Socialist is a political actionist entire. Anyone who knows the labour movement at all knows that. But the pressmen don’t—hence.
