CLEANING UP TOWN

COUNCIL CONGRATULATED NOXIOUS WEEDS QUESTION BLACKBERRY harbours rats A decision at the March meeting to circularise all property owners in the borough, serving notice on them to clear all noxious weeds from their sections and road frontages especially on vacant sections resulted in several letters on this subject coming before the April meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. Mr J. H. Evans of Paeroa wrote as under: — “Your circular regarding noxious ■ weeds’ duly received. As a. resident. • of Paeroa for the past 20' years I wish to congratulate the new members, or the active members, that have prompted this ‘progressive move.’ It has been very lacking during thepast 20' years, when the necessary labour- was much more plentiful.. How- . ever the matter will have attention. No Footpath Formation “With regard to Seth street I would like to draw the attention of the council to the fact that it is a short and fairly level street with all the sections fully occupied with a good class of house yet the footpath formation etc., near my property, usually carried out by the council is conspicuous by its absence. “The weeds growing on the land are in keeping with the formation of the land in this fully occupied street. When the weeds are cleaned up-to-date I would like to think that the council would consider bringing the formation of the street also up-to-date —that it certainly warrants.” It was decided to thank Mr Evans for his congratulations and advise him that the question of footpaths had -been referred to the works committee. Mrs M. Roberts, of road, wrote as under: — “ I am writing • this in connection with blackberries on the adjoining section to my place. I believe this is a Government section. These blackberries are a disgrace to the street besides 1 growing through my hedge. Harbouring Rats “They are harbouring rats, which I find are getting to be a nuisance in my home. 1 Until the last few days the fire plug was completely covered over. “My husband, before going overseas, kept them cut back a certain amount, but this is an impossible task foi’ me. I believe it is the responsibility of the owner of a section to keep the frontage clean, but we have always had this unsightly mass of blackberries to deal with. The opposite side of the road, all along in front of my place is also thick with blackberries. Housing Department’s Promise “I am hoping you will bring this matter before your council so that something can be done about this section.” . - '4 The district inspector, Department 'of Housing, Hamilton, wrote as follows: — “I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 3rd. inst., directing attention to the noxious weeds growing on or fronting the property owned by the Department in Aorangi road. The matter has been referred to the department’s overseer for him to take the necessary action as early as possible.
