MERCURY BAY INSTITUTE ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON There was a fail’ attendance at the April meeting of the Mercury Bay Women’s Institute. The president, Mrs Ralph, was in the chair and read the Institute Ode. In her opening remarks she referred to the excellent work of the retiring secretary, Mrs 'Sharpies and also of the splendid work of Miss Lyon, who had resigned the position of treasurer. Mrs Bronlund and Mrs Russell have taken over offices respectively. Mrs Clark was welcomed by the president as a new member to the institute.

The Dominion president’s letter was read with interest.

The roll call, “Humorous Story,” was fairly well responded -to. Mrs Armstrong accepted the charge of the visitors’ book.

Dressmaking hints were given 'byi a few members.

Mrs Ralph arranged and played a ■rather novel musical competition in colour. In each song played a colour was mentioned and the successful winner was Mrs Wells.

Mrs Bronlund gave a reading entitled “Children’s Nerves.” Mrs J. Smith auctioned the articles brought along for the bring-and-buy and succeeded in a marvellous result.

The hostesses were Mrs H. Simpson, Mrs Prestage and Mrs R. Smith. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
