CEREMONY MARRED BY WEATHER
SERVICE HELD IN THE REGENT THEATRE
PUBLIC PAY FITTING TRIBUTE ON TUESDAY
Although rain set in at mid-day it did not affect the attendance at the Anzac commemoration service held in Paeroa on Tuesday, some 600 to 700 people assembling to pay fitting tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in the Boer War, the Great War and the present conflict. The service was held in the Regent Theatre as conditions at the Cenotaph on Primrose Hill were far from pleasant.
Due to the continuous heavy rain it was not possible to hold the usual parade but the units formed up on the footpath in front of the theatre to enter the building behind the official party.
Many beautiful wreaths, both official tributes and from the general public were placed on the stage in the theatre and later placed on the Cenotaph on Primrose Hill.
