ANZAC DAY 1944
FIFTH WAR CELEBRATION COMMEMORATION PLANS ARRANGEMENTS FOR TUESDAY This year’s observance of Anzac Day will be one of particular interest and importance. It will be t e fifth celebration of New Zealand s war day under war conditions and on that account there will probably b larger parades than have even before been seen. . . p This appears certain m where plans for the observance of the . day have been completed and the de tails are now available for issuing all parties concerned. The arrangements made f _ year will follow generally the line adopted on former occasions. At 1. p.m. there will be a parade at the Post Office under command of Lieut< Colonel J. H. 'Bartlett- of Returned Servicemen, Cadets Air Training Corp, Girl Guides, . fee Brigade, Women’s War Service Auxiliary, Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp, y Scouts, St. John Ambulance. Scholars of Paeroa District High School, scholars of St. Joseph s Convent School and Brownies and Cubs will be assembled at the Cenotaph. •At 2 P-m. the parade, led by The Paeroa Municipal Band, will leave the Post Office and proceed via Normanby road, through Arney street entrance to the Cenotaph. Service Opens The commemoration service is , scheduled to commence at 2.15 p.m. •and after the National Anthem led by the Paeroa Municipal Band floral tributes will be placed on the Cenotaph. Floral tributes will also be placed on the Bradford Memorial by veterans of the South African War. The scripture lesson will be read by Rev. J. R. Nelson and a short address will be given by Major S. J. Hedge. A hymn, “0 Valiant Hearts,” followed by the 'Benediction by Adjutant A. Armstrong, and the “Last Post will be followed by one minute’s silence and “Reveille.” A hymn “0 'God Our Help In Ages Past” will be sung followed by a prayer by Mr G. W. Moore. Motor-cars must not park in the .Domain nor Will they be allowed inside the gates after '2 p.m. Limited seating accommodation will be provided for elderly people. In the event of wet weather the service will be held in the Regent Theatre and the public will be invited to place wreaths in front of the stage. Collection boxes will be placed at the top of the hill and at the entrance gate to receive donations in aid of the Returned Services’ Association Relief Fund.
