FAREWELL EVENING

MR RAY LAURENT HONOURED JOINING UP WITH AIR FORCE A very enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs V. A. Laurent on the occasion of their son Ray’s eighteenth birthday and also on the eve of his departure for an airforce camp. During the evening Mr P. Mudford extended to Ray all their best wishes for his birthday and also mentioned that he would carry with him all their best wishes for a successful career in the Airforce, calling on all present to join in a toast to his health and success. Ray suitably replied and was then called upon to blow out the 18 candles and cut the birthday cake which had been very tastefully decorated by Mrs M. Meads of Netherton. The opportunity was also taken by Mr Laurent to propose a toast to Mr Keith Locke on his nineteenth birthday. Mr Locke suitably replied. In proposing a toast to the health of Mr and Mrs Laurent, Mr Bruce Wilson thanked them for a very enjoyable evening. Mi* Laurent suitably replied, thanking all present for coming along and making the evening a success. Miss Daphne Fisher kindly rendered vocal items which were very much appreciated by all. Bay was the recipient of some very useful presents. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.” Those present were:— Mrs P. Mudford, Misses A. Bramley (Paeroa), C. Bramley (Paeroa), M. Martin, Merle Richmond, Marie Richmond, L. Mudford, J. Uoldicutt, A. McNeil, V. Paul, D. Fisher, R. Fisher, K. Taylor, E. Laurent. Messrs P. Mudford, Ken Mudford (Tauranga), C. Mudford, G. Smith (Paeroa), F. Chaney (Paeroa), F. Hopping (Hikutaia), B. Wilson, K. Locke, S. Locke, R. Smith (Hamilton).
