HORSE SPORTS
CLUB FORMED IN PAEROA MEETING EARLY IN MAY OFFICIALS ELECTED FOR YEAR A public meeting to form the Paeroa Picnic Horse ’Sports Club was held in the Paeroa Borough Council Chambers on Thursday evening. The Mayor, Mr Ed<win Edwards, presided over a good attendance of those interested. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr Edwin Edwards; president, Mr V. Young; secretary, Mr K. Dean; assistant-secretary, Mr R. L. Darley; treasurer, Mrs A. Carrick; committee, Messrs E. P. Fathers, W. Crimmins, G. Elvidge, J. J. Poland, G. Spinks, G. Vincent, J. Bartlett, A. Coxhead, M. Vuglar, O. Young, H. Mitchell, W. Townley, E. Kahn, L. Richards, C. Murdock, G. Avery, D. G. McMillan, A. A. Jenkinson, J. Walmsley, M. Crimmins, M. Bailey, E. Shaw, G. Bain, G. Stewart, W. Dale; executive committee, Messrs E. P. Fathers, W. Crimmins, E. Elvidge, J. J. Poland’, W. Townley and G. Vincent, with the officers of the club. It was decided to hold a meeting on Saturday, Mary 6, the handicapping to be on the weight system, the novelty events being left to the executive committee to arrange.
It was agreed that all races, both gallops and trotting events be for horses which, have not raced at a totalisatbr meeting for 12 months prior to the date of the sports meeting.
Officers for the sports were appointed as under: — Handicappers, gallops, Mr R. Russell, trotting, Mr W. Thomas; clerk of course, Mr L. James; clerk of scales, Mr V. Vuglar; paddock stewards, Messrs E. P. Fathers and C. Murdock; number steward, Mr C. Clune; colour stewards, Messrs W. Townley and G. Avery; gate steward', Mr A. A. Jenkinson; starters, galloping, Messrs W. Crimmins and A. Coxhead, trotting, Mr J. Thrupp; judges, Messrs C. W. Winder and P. Corbett; timekeeper, Mr P. Corbett; hon. surgeons, Dr. F. L. Clark and Dr. S. L. Haslett; announcer, Mr M. Bailey; judicial committee, Messrs J. J. Poland, V. Young and E. P. Fathers.
It was decided to contact the Paeroa Caledonian Society in an endeavour to have Scottish dancing at the sports.
The Paeroa Ladies’ Patriotic Committe intimated their willingness to run the refreshment booth.
