VAN DRIVER BEFORE COURT INCIDENT ON HAURAKI PLAINS Charged with operating a motor van which d'id not have sufficient brakes, Colin James McKain was convicted and ordered to pay costs by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M. in the Paeroa Court on Monday. Constable R. Beasley said that McKain was driving the van along the Kaihere road and was involved in a collision. When the brakes of the van were tested it was found that they were useless. The brakes were not to blame for the accident. McKain was a soldier returned recently from the Middle East on furlough. A penalty as stated above was imposed, court costs being 10s, witness’ expenses 2s 4d.
