ROTOKOHU DRAINAGE

SOIL CONSERVATION COUNCIL £74o' SUBSIDY FOR BOARD Recently in company with Mr Thorp, chairman of the TirohiaRotokohu Drainage Board and some local farmers, Mr James Thorn, MJP., made an inspection of drainage problems in the Tirohia area, and subsequently he placed before the Minister of Works, the Hon. R. .Semple, some proposals for the assistance of the board. The Minister has now advised Mr Thorn that his department has carried out an examination of the area, and the matter has been put before the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council. The council, after considering all the facts, has author-, ised a subsidy to the board of £740, £2 for £l, to enable heavy cleaning work to be carried out on such drains as need attention. As to the provision of plant; Mr Semple states that his department is looking into the question, and the board can expect to hear further through departmental channels on this and other features of the work.
