FAREWELL GATHERING

MR & MRS G. W. MOORE DEPARTURE FOR PAEROA The esteem in which Mr and Mrs G. W. Moore are held in Thames church circles was shown 'by the large attendance in the St. James’ Presbyterian Church hall, Thames, recently, when members of the church and representatives of other organisations assembled to bid farewell to them before their departure for Paeroa. Mr Moore, who has been a member of the police force in Thames, is leaving to take up the position of student preacher in charge of the Paeroa Presbyterian Church. Mr Moore was presented with a well-filled wallet by Mr H. Crawford, on behalf of those present. The following ministers spoke in appreciation of his services to local church work: the Rev. K. W. McKinney (Presbyterian), Pastor I. Hughes (Church of Christ), Rev. P. W. Norrish (on behalf of the Methodist and Baptist Churches), and Father E. Lyons (Roman Catholic). Supper was provided by the ladies and junior guild. Items presented were a.pianoforte duet by Misses Betty Smith and Elma Nankivell; vocal solo by Mrs A. Ross; vocal solo by Mrs Longmuir Smith; another vocal solo by Miss Myrtle Smith (Methodist junior choir), and an elocutionary item by Mr Moore. A conjuring entertainment was given by Mr E. W. Whitehead. Mr W. S. Burford presided.
