CONFERENCE AT KEREPEEHI
4i MILES OF ROAD NEEDED REQUEST TO MINISTER OF WORKS LARGE AREA READY FOR SETTLEMENT Members of the Paeroa-Patetonga Highway Association representing some 80 settlers and delegates from the Paeroa Borough Council, the Hauraki Plains County Council and the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce met in conference in the Kerepeehi Hall on Monday afternoon to discuss the possibility and the practicability of completing some 4i miles of road to provide a direct link between Paeroa and Patetonga. . Such a route, it was contended, would provide a quick access to a good market for the Patetonga settlers who were at present rather isolated and at the same time would open up a large area of first-class dairying land suitable for the rehabilitation of servicemen. Although the original estimates for the job had claimed that the project would be a very expensive one, information disclosed at the conference showed that the work possibly could be carried out for merely a quarter of the sum of the original estimate. After the advantage to the Patetonga settlers, the town of Paeroa, the development of the Hauraki’ Plains and the possibility of increased production had all been brought to the notice of the conference it was agreed to arrange for the Minister of Works to inspect the area, the general opinion bring that once he saw the possibilities of the scheme he would be very interested in seeing its completion. The Ministers of Land and Rehabilitation are also to be asked to inspect the area in company with the Minister of Works.
