HARVEST FESTIVAL

NGATEA METHODIST CHURCH PRODUCE .SOLD BY AUCTION The annual harvest festival services were held in the Ngatea Methodist Church on Sunday, March 12 and proved to be helpful and successful. Large congregations assembled at both services. Col. Carmichael, of the Auckland Salvation Army, conducted the morning service and gave an appropriate address on “The Fruits Of The Spirit” emphasising the facts that the fruits of the spirit of Christ should ibe manifest in man’s own inward experience; in his relationship to his fellowmen and in his relationship to God. During this service Miss Jean Dalgety sang a sacred solo very effectively. The evening service was conducted by Rev. G. W. Cramond, who spoke on the subject of “Lessons From The Garden.” A duet was sung iby Misses N. and D. Sherlock and' a quartette rendered the anthem, “Hear *Me Jehovah.” Social In Ngatea Hall The harvest festival was concluded on Monday evening with a social and sale of goods in the Ngatea Hall. After a devotional opening, a short musical programme was presented by Misses M. Thomas and J. Cocks (pianoforte duet), Killy Kearns (solo), Peggy O’Brien: (pianoforte solo), Mr W. E. Cocks (Recitation), Miss T. Jesson (pianoforte solo), Miss Jean Dalgety (solo), Miss Jean Jessen (pianoforte solo), Mr and Mrs Kearns (duet) and Misses T. and J. Jessen (pianoforte duet). This programme was very much enjoyed by the large gathering present. There was a very fine collection of vegetables, fruit, pams, etc., and the auctioneering of these goods caused some amusement and held the attention of the people till the end. As a result of the harvest festival a good sum of money was raised and this will be donated to a fund to entble the trustees to build a muchneeded social room on to the Ngatea Church. The evening concluded with the providing of supper by the ladies.
