SHAREMILKERS’ UNION
ANOTHER BRANCH FORMED KAIHERE-PATETONGA AREA Another branch of the Sharemilkers’ Union was formed recently at Patetonga, when executive members from the Morrinsville branch placed' before the meeting the advantages of becoming union members. A fortnight previously a branch had been formed at Kaihere, but it was subsequently decided ; that it would be better for the one committee to be appointed for both districts, as shaiemilkers in the area were so scattered. The branch will now be known as the Kaihere-'Patetonga branch. A committee representative of both districts was appointed, with Mr W. Ballen as president and Mr McConnell as secretary. Interesting addresses were given by Mr G. Collins and Mr E. Followes, who spoke of various matters of interest to sharemilkers and gave an outline of the achievements of the sharemilkers’ organisation. A question affecting many sharemilkers was raised by Mr Ballen, who pointed out the difficulty for many children who had several miles to walk before they reached the school bus service. It was decided that the 'branch should write to the Minister of Education regarding this matter, and the meeting expressed the hope that the same steps would also be taken by the Farmers’ Union to see that the children were properly served.
