SHAREMILKERS MEET
branch of union in pabroa OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED A decision to form a branch of the Sharemilkers’ Union in Paeroa was reached at a good meeting of sharemilkers’ held in the Labour Party Rooms, Paeroa, on Friday night. Mr A. Tynan, who convened the meeting explained the reason for calling same and then Mr Church, organiser, addressed those assembled and pointed out the need for the proper organising of this ’branch of the dairy industry to put forward their claims for 'better conditions 1 and remuneration for their services. It was pointed out that labour costs, shed expenses and electric power had increased to such an extent that the position was fast becoming hopeless for the sharemilker and the time was now ripe to unite and try to improve their own conditions. At the conclusion of the address many questions were asked and answered. A motion that a branch of the Sharemilkers’ Union be formed, in Paeroa was carried unanimously. Mr A. Tynan was elected chairman and Mr Andrew secretary. It was considered advisable to hold over the election of a committee and to endeavour to get a representative from each small district surrounding Paeroa so that all would have a voice in the affairs of the union. Mr Tynan was elected to represent Paeroa at the conference of sharemilkers to be held in Matamata on Monday, March 13.
