Mrs Athol Howard of Whitianga, has received word from Italy that her* husband has been promoted to Ist.Lieutenant, Lieut. Howard left New Zealand over a year ago as a secondlieutenant. He had previously served in the Pacific with the New Zealand, forces. Mrs Forman, of Colville, is a guest; , at Mrs R. Smith’s residence, Mercury Bay. ' 'Sgt. and Mrs Tony Dewhurst are enjoying a holiday at the Whitianga Hotel. Sgt. Dewhurst is an Australian at present attached to New Zealand Armed Forces. Mr and Mrs W. Oxley and daughters Margaret and Rosemary, returned to Mercury Bay from a holiday spent in Auckland. •Mr and Mrs Hill and daughter of Morrinsville, are enjoying a holiday at Whitianga with Mrs Chaney. Pte. Neil Thompson, of Auckland', spent his furlough at Whitianga as the guest of Mrs Chaney. Mrs C. M. Bothamley, of Wellington, spent the week-end at the Whitianga Hotel. Mrs Penn and two children of Morrinsville, are guests of Mrs Chaney, Whitianga. Mr and Mrs Nash, of Auckland, are camping at Mr Harsant’s place, Hahei, for a fortnight. Mr and Mrs F. A. Jensen, of Pokeno visited Whitianga last week-end and stayed at their lovely seaside home. Miss Freeman is in Whitianga to carry out her duties as dental nurse to the local school children. Mr and Mrs Banks and Miss Beverley Banks, are spending a holiday at their summer residence at Whitianga.
