MAYORAL APPEAL

PAEROA’S PATRIOTIC FUND LETTER TO ALL CITIZENS GIVE AND GIVE GENEROUSLY An appeal to every citizen, of Paeroa to give and give generously to enable the town to fill its quota of £1250 for the 1944 All Purposes Patriotic Appeal is made in the following letter by His Worship, the Mayor of Paeroa, Mr Edwin Edwards. The Mayor writes as under: — “ The local Patriotic Committee has this year been requested to raise £1250 as our district’s quota towards the amount required for 1944 patriotic purposes.

“The objects of the patriotic organisation are well known to most citizens but to further elucidate the many avenues through which the funds are expended I would like to mention that all comforts —buildings, club rooms, sports gear, writing -paper, cigarettes, entertainment, etc., distributed or controlled by the Y.M.C.A,. various church army units, Red- CrossSociety and other similar organisations are financed out of the funds raised by the Patriotic Committees working in New Zealand. Parcels sent to prisoners of war by Red Cross Societies have up to this year been paid for from patriotic funds. “ Realising the urgent -need for funds to meet the requirements of the men and women serving overseas and at home I am again confidently appealing to -Paeroa citizens to make very generous donations immediately so that our district will not fail in its duty. “ Let us all resolve to give to the full extent of our resources, even if we have to make considerable personal sacrifices. “All donations will be acknowledged' in the Hauraki Plains Gazette, and can be left at the Paeroa Borough Office, the Ohinemuri County Office, or the Gazette office and- with any authorised collector. “ Give quickly and give freely and feel that you are doing your share to help those who are giving their all to .help you.” Yours obediently, EDWIN EDWARDS,. Mayor.
