LOCAL & GENERAL
£5 for Mayor’s Relief Fund A cheque for £5 towards the Mayor’s Relief Fund or other similar existing local officially recognised central fund for the relief of distress generally was received at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council from the Minister of Internal Affairs, being part profits of the “Early Bird Art Union.” Cemetery Improvements Cordial appreciation of improvements recently effected and promised at the Pukerimu Cemetery was voiced in a letter written by the Rev. J. R. Nelson, Paeroa, to the March meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council. The writer expressed regret if, in his earlier letter on cemetery affairs, he had over-stated the council’s responsibility and resources, oi - failed to take into account personal factors in the care of cemetery plots. Borough Council Meets The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held in the Borough Chambers on Friday night, the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, presiding. Others present were Messrs W. Smith, D. : G. McMillan, E. S. Moore, J. Walmsley, F. Sparks, C. C. Webb, B. Gwilliam, H. M. Shand and the acting town clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson. Synthetic Tennis Balls The possibility of obtaining a supply of synthetic tennis balls from America will be explored by the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. The price in New Zealand would be 10/- a pair. It is hoped to continue the manufacture of balls at Auckland during the winter to ensure a greater supply for next season.
