NGATEA INSTITUTE MEETS ELECTION OF OFFICERS FLOWER .SHOW IN MARCH The annual meeting of the Ngatea Women’s Institute was held in the Ngatea Hall on Wednesday, March 1. Miss Paul presided' over a good attendance of members and friends. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute song and the reading of the prayer. It was decided to hold the flower show in March. Members were asked to bring to the next meeting garments which will be forwarded to the Maoris in the 'North. Miss Paul introduced- Mrs Sawer, president of the Auckland District ■Federation of Women’s Institutes to the members and then presented her with a beautiful shoulder spray. Members were keenly interested in Mrs Sawer’s address which dealt chiefly with work within the institute movement and how its combined efforts can do so much to improve the life and conditions bf less fortunate fellow members. At the conclusion of her address Mrs Sawer was loudly applauded. Winners of the competitions for the day were:— Best bloom.—Miss A. Paul 1, Mrs Wheeler 2. Best spray.—Miss G. Irwin 1, Miss Paul 2. Six best beans. —Mrs Wheeler I, Mrs L. O’Brien 2. The secretary, treasurer, and the convener of the gardening circle each read their annual report and all showed that much had been accomplished during the year. The winners l of the annual competitions were as follow:— Work within the institute. —Miss Paul 1, Mrs Wheeler 2, Mrs H. Dalgety 3. Miss 'G. Irwin had the distinction of winning all three trophies in the gardening circle’s competitions. Details.— Vegetable section.—Miss Irwin 1, Mrs M. Grbich 2, Miss Paul 3. Best bloom section. —Miss Irwin 1, Mrs E. J. Thomas and Miss Paul, dead heat, 2. Competition section.—Miss li’win 1, Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Thomas, dead heat, 2. At the election of officers, Miss Paul was unanimously re-elected •president and the following were elected by ballot for the committee: Mesdames J. Lee, L. O’Brien, C. H. Waite, R. McKee, W. Williams, D. ■Coldicutt, J. Leonard, F. Connors and Misses G. Alach and M. O’Neil. All the retiring officers and convenersl were presented with shoulder sprays as a token of appreciation from the members for their valuable work during the year. After the hostesses, Mesdames Hayward, T. Wheeler, N. Mold and L. Julian had served afternoon tea the meeting was brought to a. close with the singing of the National Anthem.
