PRICES FOR FARM PRODUCE FARMERS’ UNION REQUEST QUESTION OF MORE LABOUR The need for an adequate supply of labour for farms with higher prices for farm produce so that attractive wages could 'be paid, was asked for in a remit from Ngatea which was adopted at Tuesday’s meeting of the Northern Thames Sub-Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. The remit read as under: “That this meeting considers that the dairy industry will suffer further serious decline unless the following steps are taken: “1. That an adequate supply of dependable farm labour be provided to encourage farmers to increase their reduced herds. “2. That satisfactory labour can only be obtained by paying a wage commensurate with that obtained in ■other industries. “3. That the present prices for •dairy products are too low to enable farmers to engage such labour if it were available. “4. That a greatly increased quantity of manure be made available to those farmers most requiring it.”
