“THE AMATEUR GENTLEMEN”

“Dark Journey,” starring Vivien Leigh, Conrad Veidt, will show on Wednesday and' Thursday at the Regent Theatre.

“Dark Journey” is Sir Alexander Korda’s exciting romantic spy drama, with the brilliant stars 1 of “Gone With the Wind”. Open your heart to the recklessness of a brave woman endangering her life to defeat the plans of her country’s secret service enemies, only to fall in love with the master mind in this espionage, a clash of wits and intriguing situations rising to a sensational climax in which the .daring exploits of the British Navy’s mysterious Q-boats will hold you enthralled. “The Amateur Gentleman,” the first production of Criterion Films, of which Douglas Fairbanks, Jnr., is the head, will show at the Regent Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday.

“The Amateur Gentleman” was adapted by Clemence Dane from Jeffery Farnol’s famous novel. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and Elissa Landi fill the starring roles. The story, set in the colourful Regency period', deals with the adventures of Barnabas Barty, the son of an innkeeper, who by his' skill as a prizefighter and wrestler rises toi prominence in London society. Meanwhile his father is sentenced to death on a false charge. Barnabas rescues his father from prison and in an exciting denouement unmasks the real culprit. In doing so, he wins the hand of Lady Cleone. Heavy bookings are expected for Election Night (Saturday, .September 25). Be wise and reserve early. Unpaid reservations cannot be held after 7.45 p.m. FINALLY TO-NIGHT “ LOUISIANA PURCHASE ” “Louisiana Purchase” will show finally to-night at the Regent Theatre.
