GRANITE PLAQUE

MEMORIAL TO W.A.A.C. ERECTED IN INVERCARGILL A granite plaque which has been erected at Army Headquarters, Invercargill, to perpetuate the memory of Sergeant Marjorie Stout, of the W.A.A.C., who was killed as a result of a collision between an Army truck and a train in April, was unveiled at a ceremony conducted by the Rev. C. J. Toeker at the Drill Hall recently. The staff of Army Headquarters paraded for the occasion and relations of the late Sergeant Stout were present. Sergeant Stout was one of the first young women to volunteer for service in the W.A.A.C. after the outbreak of war.

The plaque bears the following inscription: “Erected by the Area commander and staff of Area No. 12 in memory of Sergeant Marjorie Stout, W.A.A.C., accidentally killed, April 7, 1943.”
