ITS HUGE APPETITE MECHANISATION OF THE ARMY Mechanised warfare puts a tremendous strain on the resources of a belligerent country. In 1939 the British Army had 45,000 vehicles. To-day it lias 750,000.Tw0 hundred and seventyfive spare parts are required for army tanks and vehicles. Two thousand tyres were issued daily in the Eighth Army's offensive in the Middle East. 14-ton tank needs a ton of spare parts to keep it in action for six months. Two hundred and fifty thousand cartons were needed for vehicle spare parts at. the start, of the First Army’,s offensive.
