A TOMMY’S THANKS
GIFT PARCEL FROM N.Z. APPRECIATION OF TREATMENT A handsome tribute to the New Zealand Division as a fighting machine, and also to New Zealand’s patriotic gift parcels scheme, is a British soldier, who received one of the parcels when he was a patient in a New Zealand hospital in the Middle East. The parcel was one which came from the staff of the Wanganui City Council, to whom the Tommy wrote in acknowledgment, as follows:— “May I, through this short note, express my deep appreciation of your most welcome gift. I may say that this is the first parcel I have ever received from any one outside the family circle. It came as a complete and pleasant surprise. lam a Tommy and had the extreme good fortune to be sent to a New Zealand hospital. And I might add that the treatment given to me by the staff here is wonderful. They can’t do enough for me. I have made friends everywhere here among the Kiwis —including the dentist. The Kiwi name ranks amongst the highest out here, and I am proud to say that I knew them in the desert and in hospital. With such noble and fine' work being done here and ‘down under,’ we can’t lose. So very many thanks for the parcel. Good luck and cheerio.”
The writer was Clifford Charles worth, of the Royal Signals.
