OLD-TIME DANCE

SUCCESSFUL EVENING FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA PATRIOTIC FUNDS AIDED The 'Patriotic Old Time Dance held on Monday evening last was an outstanding success, the (Parish Hall being filled to capacity despite the most inclement weather and as a result 1943 All Purposes Appeal funds will benefit to the extent of over £lO. A most enjoyable evening was spent, the popularity of old favourites being loudly acclaimed, even to a demand that a second set of “Lancers” be included in the programme. Mi- W. Pirie was the very capable and popular M.C. and his insistence on strict old-time dance decorum added greatly to the success of the function. He was also a tower of strength to those many younger patrons who were in the throes of learning the steps so well known to their parents.

Mr E. Kahn, who was in charge of the music was ably assisted by Mrs J.

L. Brown, Mrs R. A. Mace, Miss Rita Smith and Mr W. J. Forrest, and all were agreed that their efforts were admirable. The music for a Threesome Reel which was much enjoyed by all, was supplied by 'Piper Stuart of the Paeroa Caledonian Society. •

f A Monte Carlo waltz held during the evening was won by Misses L. Bourne and M. McNeill.

At a suitable interval Mr E. L. Hunt, chairman of the Entertainment Committee of the Paeroa District Patriotic Committe thanked all who had contributed to the success of the evening and announced the intention of the committee to repeat the effort in a larger hall in about a month’s time on a date to be advertised later.

Light refreshments were served and a very successful evening was brought to a close shortly after midnight.
