COROGLEN INSTITUTE MEETS FLOWER COMPETITION RESULTS There was a good attendance of members at the August meeting of the Coroglen Women’s Institute. A visitor, Mrs Dawson, of Tawai, was also present. The president was in the chair and opened the meeting by reading the Institute Prayer. The monthly letter from the A.D.F.W.1., was read and it was decided to submit an entry for the Sugden Shield competition to be held at the council meeting in November. Miss K. Hodge kindly consented to make the rag rug necessary for this entry. One pullover and two pairs of gloves were handed in for the Merchant Navy.
It was decided to support the appeal for the Makogai Leper Station, by holding a bring and buy in September. Members were invited to contribute some article for inclusion in a parcel to 'be sent as well. The remainder of the afternoon was given over to a social afternoon to hear the secretary’s report on the recent North Island Conference held at Gisborne. Final results of the voting on remits were not yet to hand, but were expected for the September meeting. The members accorded the secretary and Mrs R. Hodge a hearty vote of thanks for the report, on the conference and the trip generally. The result of the flower competition was as under:—Mrs A. Hodge Snr., 3 points; Mrs G. R. Hodge, 2; Mrs W. Feilding 2, Miss Jorgensen 2, Mrs Nicholas 1, Miss K. Hodge 1, Mrs Hare 1, Mrs J. C. Minifie Snr., 1. A bring and buy for pool money raised the sum of £1 19s 6d.
The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
