SUCCESSFUL EFFORT
allied nations dance PARCEL FUND ASSISTED A gay scene was presented at St. George’s Hall, Coromandel, on Friday, August 27, when the staff of the Farmers’ Trading Company held an Allied Nations Dance in aid of the parcel fund for local boys. The hall was appropriately decorated with flags and flowers. A number of people attended in fancy dress representing Allied Nations and the Grand March proved an amusing event. A party of Greenlanders, driving a reindeer and sledge caused screams of laughter. There was a very good attendance of the public and everyone spent a happytime.
The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs E. M. Lucas and Lee Perfect, and extras were played by Mrs D. Stewart.
During the evening several items were rendered and were enthusiastically received- They were, Schubert’s “Cradle Song,” Misses Freda and Pat Hannaford; songs, Miss Shirley Hannaford, “Big Lady Moon,” “I’ll Be With You in Apple Blossom Time”; Miss Mary Hannaford accompanied her sisters; songs and tap dances, Miss Doreen Smith, “Franklin D. Roosevelt Jones,” “The Fleet’s In,” accompanied 'by Mrs D. Stewart; songs, Miss Jean McLellan, “Annie Laurie,” “ I Came Here to Talk for Joe,” accompanied by Miss Janet McLellan.
The winners of the fancy costume prizes were:—Mr E. W. Gilliver, Mr Winston Churchill; Master Dyson Gilliver, Hitler; Mrs D. -Stewart, Russia; Mrs R. Turner, America; Mr and Mrs D. Strongman and party, Greenlanders; Miss D. Gorrie, Egypt.
The party representing Greenland comprised Mr and Mrs D. Strongman, Misses J. Strongman and A. Anderson as the reindeer, Misses Loma and Vai Strongman; Joan and Pam Gilliver, Gay Hansen and Joan Turner (the children). This party contributed largely to the fun of the evening and were to be commended for their original idea which was so.' well carried out.
A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Maureen Hunter and Driver Jack Chappell and a spot waltz was won by Mrs Hannaford and Miss Pat Hannaford Coffee and sandwiches were served and proved a welcome event of the evening.
Those in fancy costume were as foliow:—Mrs Anderson, New Zealand-; Mr Knight, Rajah of India; Miss June Notman, Fiji; Doreen Smith, America; Miss Melva Keyte, Indian Lady; Miss Jean McLellan, Russian Dancer; Miss Janet McLellan, -Cossack Dancer; Mrs R. Turner, America; Mrs D. Stewart, Russia; Mr Gilliver, Mr Churchill; Master Dyson Gilliver, Hitler. Dancing continued till the early hours.
