War On Eels

Measures to increase the killing of eels, one of th,to trout’s worst enemies, were adopted at. a meeting of the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. It was decided that all sub-committees of the society be urged to put into operation an eel destruction scheme on similar lines to that conducted by the Pahiatua sub-com-mittee. The Pahiatua scheme, which last year resulted ip the destruction of well over 2000 eels in that district*, is to give prizes to the local boys for the greatest number and the largest eels caught.
