SPECIAL STEPS TAKEN
ERADICATION OF RAGWORT GROWTH ON CROWN LANDS At the recent meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council the noxious weeds inspecter, Mr W. W. Williams, reported that he had taken special steps during July to deal with the growth of ragwort on the Plains. .The report read as under:— “Farms at Kaihere and Patetonga were inspected for ragwort. T carried Atlacide and scales with me on the truck and sold many parcels on my rounds.
“I interviewed Mr Taylor, drainage engineer at Kerepeehi in regard to noxious weeds on Crown lands. Owing to general labour shortage he has not been in a position to deal with same to any extent, but gave me his assurance that the matter would receive attention at an early date.” The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt said he had noticed the blackberry was getting bad at (Hopai.
The inspector said he had recently visited that district and sold spray to the settlers.
Mr D. G. McMillan said blackberry was fairly bad in Kerepeehi and mentioned several bad places to the inspector.
Mr A. H. Sutton referred to increased growth in the Tuma district, quoting farms which required attention.
