RELIEF WANTED
DRAINAGE ON THE PLAINS NEW DRAIN SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT NEAR KEREPEEH At the August meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board the chairman, Mr C. K.'Fox, reported that in company with Mr D. G. McMillan, an inspection of the Southern Central area was recently undertaken. The committee found the Maunganui drain a good clean drain. After reviewing the other drains in the area, the committee came to the conclusion that a new drain should be constructed foi about 70 chains, which would connect the Maunganui drain with the Pekapeka roadside drain. “ It was considered that if this new drain was constructed,” said the chairman, “it would give better drainage to a large low-lying area and give relief to many settlers.” He did not think it would overload the.Maunganui drain in any degree and there, was a good floodgate at the river. Mr McMillan said he would like to see the drain from the hotel to the floodgate at Wharepoa scrapped. It was a big, useless dram. Levels To Be Taken The chairman advised that the proper levels be taken before anything definite was decided upon. A suggestion was made by Mr McMillan that the Land Drainage Department be asked to take the levels. He also suggested that .the whole board view the area and become acquainted with the position. On the motion of Messrs C. W. Schultz and McMillan, it was decided that the department be asked to take the necessary levels. Mr McMillan then moved and Mr R. E. Tye seconded, that the board visit the drains in the Southern area on the same day that the Piacun drain was inspected.
