PLAINS FACTORIES BUSY CONCERT HELD AT NGATEA FUNDS FOR METHODIST CHURCH (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of August 23, 1923.) The dairy factories on the Plains have now commenced their season’s work in earnest. The Turua factory is turning out 20 cheeses daily, Huirau road 13, and Netherton 12. Separating will be continued at the Shelly Beach factory until the end of the month. The Ngatea butter factory is re- , ceiving cream daily but churning is only done four days a week. The supply of milk is not increasing as rapidly as is usual at this time of the year owing to the lack of feed caused by the abnormally wet winter. At Ngatea last evening a concart was given in the Public Hall by the Thames Vagabonds, an amateur theatrical party, in aid of a- fund to build a Methodist church in Ngatea. There was a large attendance and the humorous and varied programme was well received. Songs were contributed by Mr Leo Foster and recitations were given by Mr J. Garland. Several playettes were also given by the party. During the evening, Rev. Ashcroft, chairman of the South Auckland Methodist Church District, in outlining the prospects of Methodism on the Plains, said that already arrangements had been made for sections at Kerepeehi, Waitakaruru and Ngatea, and it was proposed to establish headquarters at Ngatea, •with an ordained minister in charge.
