MUSICAL AFTERNOON

SUCCESSFUL PAEROA FUNCTION

PATRIOTIC FUNDS ASSISTED A delightful musical afternoon was held on Thursday when Mesdames R. A. Mace, G. Stewart and E.'W. Westlake, acted as hostesses to the verylarge number of ladies present. Mrs E. P. Fathers had again generously offered the use of the sitting room and lounge at the Commercial Hotel and these were packed to capacity. The programme presented was very warmly appreciated and the whole function was run with smooth efficiency which greatly added to the enjoyment of all who attended. Those who assisted with items Were as follows:— Mesdames J. Stevenson, R. A. Mace, W. Aston, E. Kahn, J. Mitchell, “Stein Song”; pianoforte solo, Miss Rita Smith, “Autome,” (Chaminade); “Pierette,” (Chaminade); songs, Mrs E. Kahn, “Morning,” “ String of Pearls”; humorous recitation, Mrs R. Catton, “Celebrating Mother’s Day,” “Wee Jock”; songs, Mrs J. Mitchell, “Sunlight On The Hills,” “Bowl of Roses”; humorous sketch, Mesdames G. W. Wild and H. C. Jackson; song, Mrs J. Stevenson, “Keep on Hoping”; quartette, Mesdames Aston, Mace, Stevenson and Wild, “ Bells of St. Mary’s”; Mrs J. L. Brown acted as pianist. Competitions held were won by Mesaames A. Cridge and L. Hall, while Mesdames E. P. Fathers and W. Aston were successful in winning the musical parcels. Afternoon tea which was dispensed by a willing band of workers was a really delicious one. Mrs G. Stewart thanked one and all/for their attendance and especially thanked Mrs Fathers for her kindness in placing her rooms at the disposal of the guests. The excellent sum of approximately £34 was raised and is to be handed over to swell the 1943 All Purposes 'Patriotic Appeal. The Mayoress, Mrs E. Edwards, on behalf of the Paeroa District Patriotic Committee, offered sincere thanks to the hostesses, Mrs Fathers and all who attended and made the function such a successful one. >
