STRAYING STOCK
TOO MANY IN BOROUGH DAMAGE TO GARDENS BOROUGH COUNCIL DECISION The prevalence of wandering cattle in the borough of Paeroa and the damage such stock were causing in gardens and on the lawns along the roadside was discussed by members of the Paeroa Borough Council on Thursday night when it was decided to take all steps possible to stop the nuisance. Ct. E. S. Moore who introduced the subject, stated that there had been quite a lot of stock wandering about in his end of the town and he had complaints of damage done to gardens by such stock from two ratepayers. He had also heard complaints of stock wandering and doing dhmage at the other end of the town.
He referred to the difficulty in contacting the poundkeeper to inform him of stock straying in the town. Cr. W. Smith said stock'had been wandering around up his way for days. He also referred to the difficulty of getting in touch with the poundkeeper and asked what arrangement could be made so that messages could be sent to him regarding stock causing damage in the borough. Cr. Moore said the damage done to gardens had been considerable. Cr. F. Sparks urged that the council prosecute offenders when they were caught. The Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, agreed that prosecution of regular offenders might assist in stopping the trouble. After further discussion it was decided to ask the poundkeeper to pay more attention to cattle wandering in the borough.
