Councillors Nonplussed
A Latin “tag” to a letter from a settler nonplussed members at a meeting of the Whangamomona County Council, states the Taranaki Daily News. None of the members' could interpret it and business was interrupted until a translation was obtained. The letter asked that urgent repair work be done, concluding with the expression “Fiat justitia ruat coleum” (“Let justice be done though the heavens should fall”). Well-dressed New Zealanders New Zealanders are the best, dressed troops in the Middle East during the months in which serge uniforms have to be worn. Battledress is ab most universal, and even naval and air force personnel wear khaki. In J,he case of the Navy, this is, of course, confined to those who are serving ashore often in conjunction with the Army. None of their uniforms, however, compare either in cut or cloth with those which are made in New Zealand and sent to the Middle East for the N.Z.E.F.
