PATETONGA FAREWELL
MR & MRS CLARKIN HONOURED PRESENTATION FROM DISTRICT A farewell evening in the form of a social and dance was tendered Mr and Mrs- 0. Clarkin by the residents of Patetonga recently. Mr and Mrs Clarkin are leaving the district, having sold their farm. The Patetonga Hall was- crowded with friends from far and near, an indication of the guests’ popularity. The couple went to Patetonga from Thames 30 years ago to a peat farm. When they first sighted their holding it was a level area of smoking peat, having passed through the ordeal of fire. Theii’ life’s work was the breaking in of this stubborn and intractable land. They finished their job well and, after 30 years of hard work, are to enjoy a well-earned rest. Mr J. F. Mayn, in making a presentation of a handsome china cabinet and a substantial cheque on behalf of the residents, spoke of the. social activities of both Mr and Mrs Clarkin over the period of their stay in the district.
Messrs A. J. McDonald and F. Bird also spoke Of the public services rendered by the couple. and his “Swingsters.” Music was supplied by Neville Sale
