WELCOME TO SOLDIER
FUNCTION HELD IN WHITIANGA PTE. R. LOWE HONOURED On Thursday evening, about 50 guests were entertained at the residence of Mr and Mrs T. L. C. Lowe, Whitianga, in honour of their son, Pte. R. Lowe, who is home on furlough from the Middle East. Mrs Lowe, received her guests attired in a charming black and white model frock and Mrs R. Lowe looked particularly smart in a plain black model frock. During the evening, cards were enjoyed by a number of the guests, and Miss Jean McLelland of Coromandel sang to an appreciative audience, the songs “San Antonia Rose,” “Beneath The Lights of Home,” and “Johnny Doughboy.” The accompanist was Mrs Matheson, who also entertained rhe guests with pianoforte music. Mr F. Brophy during the course of the evening made a speech of welcome to the guest of honour which was followed by the singing of “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow.” A sumptuous buffet supper was served.
