GOLF ON THE PLAINS
COMPETITIONS FOR TROPHIES HIGH STANDARD OF PLAY During the last few weeks members of the Hauraki Plains Golf Club have taken part in a number of competitions for various trophies. Play has been of a high standard and competition each day has been very keen. In a four-ball best-ball bogey match for the Alwinger trophy, A. McPherson and Murphy won 3 up, F. Stretton and G. Paton, 2 down, 'being run-ners-up. G. Birkenhead won Mr T. Brocklehurst’s trophy, the course being played back to front for this match. The Symonds trophy-was won by T. Bums, his card being-97—28-— 69. G. Birkenhead, as runner-up, also, handed in a g-ood card, 91—20—71. The lady members have also played a number of matches, Mrs Main winning the competition for Mr G. Paton’s trophy, with Mrs Pacey as runner-up. In a match for Mr T. Brocklehurst’s trophy, Mrs Bums handed in the best card for the day, Mrs Main being run-ner-up. In a medal match over nine holes for Mr B. Paton’s badge, Mrs Main won, her score being 49—15—34. In an approaching and putting competition, Mrs Pacey, with a score of 26 won Mrs Main’s trophy.
