REPORTED PRISONER
HELD BY THE JAPANESE FORMER PAEROA RESIDENT Mr J. Parry Edwards, formerly of Singapore is now reported a prisoner of war held by the Japanese at Changi, Singapore. Mr Edwards, who was born and educated in Paeroa and is a younger’ brother of the Mayor of Paeroa, Mr Edwin Edwards, was employed at Singapore when that place fell and the present news is the first advice received regarding his safety. His wife was evacuated to India from Singapore only the day before the town was occupied by the Japanese. Mr Edwards left Paeroa prior to the Great War in 1914-19 and served in the Australian Infantry on Gallipoli and later as a pilot in the Australian Air Force. He returned to Paeroa after the war and later was employed in various parts of the Far East, NewGuinea, Fiji, China and Malaya Peninsula.
